The “It Was Too Cold for a Global Warming Event” Story of the Day

Posted by Doug Powers On November - 30 - 2007

Thomas Lifson at The American Thinker has this gem: Warmist polar expedition was cancelled due to extreme cold

Explorers suffered extreme frostbite in the dangerously cold conditions, leading Lifson to wonder if these publicity-seekers were undone by believing their own propaganda.

They need to alter their mindset to not believe their own propaganda, like Al Gore. You won't soon see Al too afraid of greenhouse gases not to fly in a private plane, stop heating his mansions and pools, or to travel to the North Pole. The latter is a good thing, because given his current size and color, he'd be at an extreme risk of being humped to death by a turned-on polar bear.

Breaking: Somebody’s Really Sick of Primary Season in New Hampshire

Posted by Doug Powers On November - 30 - 2007

A man claiming to have a bomb and/or guns has reportedly taken hostages in a Hillary Clinton for President campaign office in Rochester, New Hampshire. Local station WHDH reports that the downtown area is being evacuated.

Jimmy Carter en route to negotiate a settlement. Just kidding… I think…

Update: The hostage taker is demanding to speak to Mrs. Clinton. He either has a political grievance or needs the number of Hillary's Botox dealer.

All the “Justice” You Can (Teddy) Bear

Posted by Doug Powers On November - 30 - 2007

Oddly enough, this is Islam's version of "getting off the hook" — the Middle-East's answer to the O.J. Simpson murder trial verdict:

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States, backing staunch ally Britain, branded as "outrageous" the jail sentence of a British teacher in Sudan who let pupils call a teddy bear "Mohammed" as part of a class project.

"Obviously, it's an outrage," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said after a judicial source in Sudan said Gillian Gibbons, 54, would be jailed for 15 days for insulting Islam and then deported.

Unless of course Gibbons commits the heinous crime of being raped while in prison, which Sharia law would aggressively address — by stoning her to death.

Otherwise, the sentence could have been worse — as being deported from Sudan is like getting kicked out of the stands at an Oakland Raiders game.

Frankly, I'm more shocked that people haven't been stoned to death for referring to it as a "Teddy" bear — named of course after Theodore Roosevelt, who once wrote this in an essay:

It is only the warlike power of a civilized people that can give peace to the world. The Arab wrecked the civilization of the Mediterranean coasts, the Turk wrecked the civilization of southeastern Europe, and the Tatar desolated from China to Russia and to Persia, setting back the progress of the world for centuries, solely because the civilized nations opposed to them had lost the great fighting qualities, and, in becoming over peaceful, had lost the power of keeping peace with a strong hand. Their passing away marked the beginning of a period of chaotic barbarian warfare.

Calling it a "teddy" bear should be far more insulting to Islam than naming it Mohammad, but I won't bring it up until Gibbons is safely out of Sudan, just in case the Sudanese courts haven't done any research on Theodore Roosevelt.

Ann Coulter: The Phenomenon.

Posted by Bernard Chapin On November - 29 - 2007

I am the illegal alien of commentary.
I will do the jokes that no one else will do.

—Ann Coulter

It sounds kind of silly to imply that a conservative has the status of a rock star, but Ann Coulter might be the closest rightists come to a figure who makes the news merely by breathing. In recent years she has become an icon, and just about everyone interested in politics has an opinion about her…and usually those opinions are emphatic.

The amazon.com reviews for her latest book, If Democrats Had Any Brains, They’d Be Republicans, a collection of quotations from her sizable oeuvre, aptly reveals the split in the public’s perception. At the time of this writing, the compendium has 121 Five Star (excellent) ratings and 105 One Star (terrible) ratings with not a whole lot in between. This is entirely appropriate and Coulter wouldn’t want it any other way.

For conservatives the reasons to admire her are readily apparent. Coulter is a one woman battalion who says things most of us may think but are too civil (or fearful) to say out loud. Yes, albeit unfortunate, the side wishing to preserve western civilization is largely populated by kindly, deferential types who eschew conflict. The majority of us make for poor combatants in the culture war. This state of affairs makes Coulter’s value all the more pronounced. Furthermore, her enemies, for the most part, are our enemies as well, and such a commonality has forged the basis for countless political alliances over the centuries.

Coulter’s fame and esteem among rightists is cause enough for the left to hate her. Indeed, to say she is the Democratic Party’s least favorite conservative is not an understatement. The ever bloviating Ted Kennedy remarked this spring, “Ann Coulter’s words of hate have no place in the public sphere much less our political discourse.” Well, there’s no hate in her statements, but clearly she has as much a right to offend as anyone else in America—particularly if she is provoking outrage from our cowardly, statist politicians. In comparison to Senator Kennedy, I find her observations downright soothing.

At least the monstrous drunkard from Massachusetts was content to attack her with rhetoric alone. In the past, other radicals have thrown pies at her, sabotaged her biographical entry on Wikipedia, arranged to have her jumped on television shows, and spun rumors that she is a transvestite.

Pseudo-liberal outrage over her utterances is but self-parody as Coulter says what she does in the hopes of provoking her enemies. Her tactics have been enormously successful. PC automatons line up on television to express their self-righteous condemnation practically every time she opens her mouth. Their animosity and invective showcase that it is they, as opposed to the blond Page Six entry, who are the real haters in our society. Their faux indignation only serves to highlight their own shallowness and conformity, however.

The left’s ire in regards to Coulter is chiefly a result of two factors. First, emotion—as opposed to detached logical evaluation—is the essence of her fame and reputation. Despite the outstanding intellectual arguments she sometimes makes, her affective responses are the reason for why she is a household name. This is deeply resented by pseudo-liberals because they see her style as one which subsumes their own. Without emotion and conclusions based on irrational premises there would be no Democratic Party and no political left whatsoever.

Coulter’s humorous advice, “[j]ust call them traitors and let them sort it out,” inflames her foes as she uses their methods against them. Where would sensitivity statists in America be without the brandishing of isms? Answer: Out of office. If they could not dub their opponents names like racist then they would have to explain why they hold government and “the poor” to be synonymous terms. That’s the second to last thing they want. The first are opponents every bit as rude as they are.

Her ridicule is something they cannot handle. Radical feminists are well known for their obtuseness and lack of wit so imagine how irate they become after hearing Coulter describe an ideal abstinence kit as containing “an 8×10 glossy of Susan Estrich.” That is a hysterical quip, but also one that is highly accurate.

Truth is the second reason for the left’s disdain. Nothing infuriates them more than the truth and Coulter pronounces it publicly on a regular basis. “Veritas parit odium,” the truth begets hatred, which is exactly what happens when one shares reality with our elites; those same elites who look down on us from their perches atop government, the universities, and the mainstream media. They prefer not to be reminded of the fact that most of their state-sponsored “solutions” only manage to exacerbate existing social pathologies. These magnates prefer to play pretend games wherein their every socialist inclination ends up “helping” someone.

Coulter elucidates this eventuality in the following sentence: “[E]very time the government tries to help the poor it ends up removing the marvelous incentives life provides to do things like buy an alarm clock, get a job, keep your knees together before marriage, and generally become a productive, happy member of society.” Short, irreverent, funny, and also more descriptive of the dole than anything ever spun by Nancy Pelosi or Barack Obama.

Yes, calling someone a traitor is not an effective argument in itself, but it does aptly describe the mindset of the PC-nik. These individuals regard America as being a racist, sexist entity so why on earth would they ever want to defend it? Answer: They wouldn’t. They pray [sic] that our shores soon become inhabited by new diverse peoples who will assuage their pseudo-liberal guilt by transplanting our indigenous culture with charming societal accoutrements such as Sharia or election via coup d’etat.

These leftists care nothing for our Constitution and wish to breathe life into it…until it is dead. To them, America will always be “Amerika.” With sophist ease they have redefined patriot with its antonym. The word now refers to a person who reflexively criticizes their own country whenever possible. Clearly, traitor is a term which embodies them.

The mainstream media responds to Coulter the entertainer, but makes a point of ducking her logical arguments. They depict her as being an airhead yet she knows her foes far better than they know themselves. Even her intentionally outrageous stuff—“Most newspapers in the red states-even nice states like Mississippi-are run by loser liberals who rub their foreskin while reading the New York Times”—illustrates the depth of her analysis. Journalists and yuppies are the only two remaining groups of Americans who retain any admiration for the slanted operation that once dubbed itself, “the paper of record.”

I am very grateful for her presence in the public square; although, duty necessitates my providing prospective purchasers of If Democrats Had Any Brains, They’d Be Republicans with a warning. Those readers who already own her books would be wise to pass on this one. There’s precious little here that hasn’t been said (and excoriated) before. Besides, one can access her online columns for free.

In summation, in regards to Ms. Coulter, I have said it before but will say it again—she may be the most important conservative in America. Not only is the scorn she showers upon the left well-deserved, it also enables her peers to speak freely. Like Valderrama, Ballack, Zidane or any other brilliant soccer midfielder, Coulter’s thrusts and counterstrokes create space within which the rest of us can roam and prosper. We should be allowed to say what we want in our private lives without fear of termination, prison or banishment.

I will concede that the uttering of verboten syllables is not a cause for celebration, but by lampooning PC she helps roll back the invasive boundaries of the sensitivity state. We badly need her. Whatever one thinks of her personality, all rightists owe her a debt of gratitude because everyday she acts as a lightning rod…on our behalf.

Debunk Domestic Abuse Junk-Science

Posted by Ray Blumhorst On November - 29 - 2007

Dictionaries often contain multiple meanings for words. The meanings may or may not have any relation to each other. Useful definitions are those which most aptly fit the meaning of the word in a particular, desired usage. In seeking to find a definition of “junk-science,” especially as it most aptly pertains to domestic abuse law, I offer the following:

The Encarta World English Dictionary defines “junk” for this usage as”

2. rubbish: discarded things, or things regarded as worthless or causing clutter (informal)

4. nonsense: meaningless or worthless talk (informal)

The same dictionary, among it’s multiple definitions of “science,” defines “science” for this usage as:

4. systematic body of knowledge: any systematically organized body of knowledge about a specific subject - the social sciences

5. something studied or performed methodically: any activity that is the object of careful study or that is carried out according to a developed method - treated me to a lecture on the science of dressing for success

Combining the two words “junk” and “science,” based on the above definitions, logically leads one to the following definition for “junk-science”:

# A systematic body of nonsense: any systematically organized body of knowledge about a specific subject, i.e. current domestic abuse law

# Nonsense conjured or fabricated methodically: any activity that is the object of careful study or that is carried out according to a developed method. - tortured me with a lecture on the junk-science of gender feminist, domestic abuse theory

Volumes have been written about domestic abuse, its causes, and it’s solutions. Most of it appears to have been structured carefully to fit the beliefs and goals of a particular political ideology, gender feminism. In the process of creating this current body of domestic abuse nonsense, constructed out of some truth, half-truths and outright lies, much of the logical and ethical methodology of true science has been lost, or more aptly, discarded. There is no body of social “science” work more fallacious, more wrong headed and in need of debunking, in my opinion, than the gender feminists’ domestic abuse theory that has lead to America’s corrupt domestic abuse law.

The asinine, women’s studies theory of Patriarchy, that alleges that all males have special privileges as a result of being males in a Patriarchal society is truly the pinnacle of all junk-science. In further alleging that males use such non-existent privilege to oppress women through violence is not only ignorant, it’s just plain stupid, when considering the forces in society which oppress men even more greatly than women. It takes a truly ignorant, unethical, and arrogant ideology such as gender feminism, to disregard male responsibilities and oppressions, thereby creating a grossly inaccurate theory of Patriarchy, then foisting the scam onto society with a pretentious moral superiority. That society has been duped so badly by this egregious fraud, speaks volumes about the special treatment (special privileges) society as a whole has historically, unquestioningly showered on women to the detriment of men.

At the website “Breaking the Science.” this explanation is offered for the unprofessional way in which much research is conducted in the field of sociology.

http://www.breakingthescience.org/

In “soft” sciences like sociology, it’s much more difficult to detect manipulation of research, than in “hard” sciences like physics. Soft science researchers who strive for objectivity deserve an extra measure of respect. Sadly, far too many researchers are more concerned with pushing an agenda than with objectivity. These same problems are not unknown in the world of journalism. Since the soft sciences and the media have a powerful influence on social policies in this country, this affects every family and every individual.

Obviously, much of BTS’s criticism is directed at the shoddy, social science, advocacy research that has been used to establish much of the published work in the area of domestic abuse theory. Many of the articles on that site are critical of the misconceptions and biases inherent in that body of domestic abuse “junk-science” and yes, “junk-law.”

BTS goes on to say:

These same problems are not unknown in the world of journalism. Since the soft sciences and the media have a powerful influence on social policies in this country, this affects every family and every individual.

Breaking the Science is about the broken “science” that’s being used to create law and drive social policy.

Indeed, mass media is a major part of the problem, when it comes to spreading the half-truths, myths, and outright lies coming out of America’s gender feminist dominated, domestic violence industry. So much propaganda has passed for truth for so long, with so little scholarly refutation, that uncritical thinkers have been brainwashed into believing the vast majority of gender feminist domestic abuse propaganda.

To describe the effects of the systematic, domestic abuse theory discrimination, (perpetrated against all men in America today) as a “tragedy” is actually employing a euphemism. Given the scale of destruction done to the targeted male population, it is more accurate to describe it akin to the beginnings of the holocaust in Nazi Germany, or the institutional persecution of African-Americans in the decades before the civil rights movement.

Tremendous abuse has been inflicted on innocent men through America’s misandrist, and corrupt domestic abuse laws. What we see being done to men in our domestic abuse courts, family law courts, colleges and universities, mass media and other societal institutions in the name of domestic abuse law is a gross national disgrace.

That this 21st century domestic abuse, hate war against men is being conducted with the illusion that sound science supports it, adds to the depth of the injury that is being perpetrated on the innocent male citizens of America. The time is now for good people everywhere (especially those involved in the liberal arts and social sciences) to debunk the domestic abuse law junk-science (and junk-law) that is being used to demonize and persecute men. Shame on American, gender feminism for being the primary force in the furtherance of such junk-science and junk-law.

The Art of War, Circa 2007

We'll just never learn:

Textron Inc.'s Cessna Aircraft Co. will become the first U.S. manufacturer to turn over complete production of an airplane to a Chinese partner, a move intended to cut production costs and foster a nascent private-aviation market in China.

Textron figured that since the food and toy imports from China are such high quality, why not let 'em make our airplanes, too?

Given the recent track record of Chinese products, if we now just let them make our razor blades, cars, beer, step ladders and electrical appliances, they'll be able to take over the U.S. without firing a shot — and they'll fly in on anything but a Cessna, of course.

Somali Imprisoned for Conspiracy to Provide Support to Jihadists

Posted by Jim Kouri On November - 29 - 2007

An Ohio man has been sentenced to serve ten years in prison for conspiring to provide material support to terrorists, according to an announcement on Tuesday by Julie L. Myers, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Nuradin M. Abdi, 35, a Somali national living in Columbus, Ohio, was named in a four-count indictment returned under seal in the US District Court in Columbus on June 10, 2004. On July 31, 2007, Abdi pleaded guilty in federal court to Count One of the indictment, which charged him with conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists.

The federal indictment specifically alleged that on April 27, 1999, Abdi applied to the Immigration and Naturalization Service — now known as ICE — for a travel document, wherein he concealed his destination by representing that he intended to visit Germany and Saudi Arabia for the purpose of “Umrah (Holly[sic] - Mecca) and visit my relative,” when he actually planned to travel to Ogaden, Ethiopia, for the purpose of obtaining military-style training in preparation for violent jihad. Abdi allegedly sought training in radio usage, guns, guerilla warfare and bombs.

“Today’s sentencing brings to conclusion one aspect of a critical joint investigation that identified and stopped three terrorist supporters bent on causing panic and significant harm to US citizens, said ICE Assistant Secretary Julie L. Myers. This investigation highlights the aggressive pursuit by ICE and the Department of Justice to identify and prosecute those who seek to terrorize America and its allies.”

“Today’s sentence is just punishment for a defendant who exploited our country’s freedoms and manipulated our immigration system on numerous occasions, all in an effort to support and conspire with international terrorists,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security, Kenneth L. Wainstein.

“I want to commend the men and women who have diligently investigated and prosecuted this case,” US Attorney Lockhart said. “They are successfully carrying out one of our nation’s most important jobs in the fight against terrorism — stopping those in this country who provide support to terrorists.”

“Nuradin Abdi’s sentence should send a very clear message to those who, like Abdi, provide support to terrorist organizations and operatives. The FBI will not tolerate the propagation of violence and discord by those who wish to harm the US and its citizens, and we will continue to work with our partners to pursue suspected terrorists and their supporters,” said Assistant Director Joseph Billy, Jr., FBI Counterterrorism Division.

According to the statement of facts agreed upon by the government and the defendant, Abdi first entered the United States in 1995 using a false passport. He once again illegally entered the United States from Canada in 1997. Abdi was later granted asylum in this country based on a series of false statements.

In the ensuing years, Abdi befriended coconspirators Christopher Paul and Lyman Faris in Ohio. Christopher Paul was later arrested and indicted in April 2007 on charges of providing material support, conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, and conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction (explosives). Lyman Faris was later convicted of providing material support and conspiracy to provide material support to Al-Qaeda. He is currently serving a 20-year prison term.

Federal agents arrested Abdi on Nov. 28, 2003. Abdi subsequently agreed to be interviewed by FBI agents and admitted conspiring with Faris, Paul and others to provide material support to foreign terrorists. These admissions by Abdi have been corroborated in a variety of ways, including bank records, travel records, invoices, and items seized in search warrants.

This case was investigated by the Southern Ohio Joint Terrorism Task Force, a multi-agency operation that includes agents and officers from 15 federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

The investigation was a joint investigation by agents and officers of the JTTF, specifically ICE Special Agents Bob Medellin and Rich Wilkens; and FBI Special Agents Steve Flowers and John Corbin.

Ken Gives Barbie STD, Bad Bush to Blame

The Campaign for America's Future, whatever that is, has an ad in which Ken picks up Barbie, and ends up giving her a rather odd type of STD. Can you guess what it is?

Here's the best part: It's Bush's fault! No, seriously. And by Bush, I mean the president.

Update: Allahpundit at Hot Air asks what the mode of STD transmission would be, as Ken dolls are famously non-developed.

The Associated Press: (Re)Writing History

Posted by Doug Powers On November - 28 - 2007

The Associated Press can always be counted on to perpetuate more fakery than a Malibu beach bunny's bikini top.

Here's a couple of sentences from a story about Al Gore's visit to the White House on Monday:

They have not met privately since then-President-elect Bush paid a visit — short, and not that sweet — to Gore's residence in December 2000.

That was back when the acrimony was fresh, in a country still in disbelief over an election that seemed never-ending. Ultimately, the U.S. Supreme Court certified Bush's 537-vote victory margin over Gore in Florida to settle the outcome.

Once again, for those challenged in recounting (if you'll pardon the expression) historical facts, the Supreme Court did not certify Bush's victory — Initially, seven SCOTUS Justices concluded that the recount ordered by the Florida Supreme Court violated the Equal Protection Clause.

In a subsequent 5-4 ruling, SCOTUS issued a stay of the Florida Supreme Court's ruling that would have had people digging into ballot boxes until the Second Coming, or enough Gore votes were "discovered" — whichever came first.

The Florida Secretary of State certified Bush's Florida win before most of the legal wranglings, and it was allowed to stand — unlike the AP's version of history.

Speaking of Gore's visit to the White House, Scrappleface has more on that story: Bush welcomes Gore with low-carbon ceremony

What Pat’s Saying

Posted by Doug Powers On November - 28 - 2007

It's no secret that Pat Robertson's gotten increasingly kooky over the years. As a result, having not paid a whole lot of attention to Pat for a fairly significant amount of time, I took his endorsement of Rudy Giuliani with a grain of salt and moved on. Others can't move on, however.

Oddly enough, some of those engaged in the backlash against Robertson's endorsement are the ones who often preface their words by pointing out how irrelevant he's become.

What's the hoopla about? Some Christian leaders are angered that Robertson endorsed a candidate who supports abortion rights, but I think I know what Pat was saying.

When Pat chose Rudy as his pick for president, Robertson reasoned his endorsement this way:

"The overriding issue before the American people, is the defense of our population against the bloodlust of Islamic terrorists," Robertson told the National Press Club audience. "Our world faces deadly peril…and we need a leader with a bold vision who is not afraid to tackle the challenges ahead."

I think I understand what Robertson's getting at.

What Pat's saying, if I'm following this properly, is simply that no other issues matter if we're dead. What Pat's saying is that a pregnant woman getting blown up by a belt bomber won't be deterred by overturning Roe v. Wade — the baby is dead either way, and so is everybody else involved. What Pat's saying is that saving countless millions of Americans from a terrorist nightmare is the ultimate pro-life act.

What Pat's saying is that, though he'd certainly prefer a candidate who believes there is no such thing as an abortion "right," he's also realistic enough to not want to make the dreadful mistake of electing somebody who might be weaker on national security just because he wants a pro-life president.

What Pat's saying is that the opportunity to lessen and eliminate abortions in this country will require a moral climate that, though perhaps more difficult to attain with a "pro choicer" in office, will be impossible to reach in a nation that has been infiltrated by those who seek to destroy us, or, worse yet, in a nation that has a president who has sold out the White House and the rest of the nation to those same people.

At least, I think that's what Pat's saying. Then again, he might just think that Rudy's the most likely to put a permanent smackdown on Hugo Chavez.

Will Californians Face Social Chaos Imposed by Politicians?

Posted by Jim Kouri On November - 27 - 2007

by Jim Kouri

“I shudder to think how millions of California children will be led astray, how marriage will be destroyed, and how immorality will step on the neck of morality if Arnold Schwarzenegger signs five anti-family bills into law. The ‘Terminator’ has less than two weeks to sign or veto very bad bills!” said Randy Thomasson, president of Campaign for Children and Families.

Thomasson is disappointed with California’s Christian pastors and elders. In the last five days, many individuals and several businesses have responded to CCF’s action alert. However, to date, only one church has faxed in veto letters to the liberal Schwarzenegger’s
office in Sacramento.

“This is not right, since the majority of pastors in California oppose sexual indoctrination of
schoolchildren (SB 777 and AB 394), oppose demeaning marriage (AB 43 and AB 102), and oppose forcing the homosexual-bisexual-transsexual agenda on businesses, organizations, and churches (AB 14),” said Thomasson.

“Distracted drivers cause car accidents; distracted pastors may accidentally assist anti-family bills to be signed into law. The Governor will notice our loud voice or our relative silence. The choice is [ours],” he added.

California’s leading pro-family organizations are urging Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to veto five bills they believe will harm children, marriage, and religious freedom that are on his desk. And the Governor is taking notice — he’s listed the five bills as among a dozen pieces of legislation upon which telephone callers to his State Capitol office can “vote.”

Campaign for Children and Families (CCF), Capitol Resource Institute, California Family Council, and Traditional Values Coalition are all urging vetoes of two school sexual indoctrination bills (SB 777 and AB 394), two marriage-demeaning bills (AB 102 and AB 43), and a bill that forces homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality upon businesses, churches, and nonprofit member organizations such as the Boy Scouts (AB 14).

CCF is also calling upon the Governor to veto increased government funding of abortions, abortion referrals, and condom and birth control pills for teenagers without parental permission (SB 94).

Thomasson and the membership of Campaign for Children and Families are urging Californians to call, fax, and email the Governor to urge him to use his veto pen on behalf of the overwhelming number of pro-family voters that supported his reelection.

Sample veto letters for voters to format and fax are posted at www.savecalifornia.com.

“Young children will be led astray, the definition of marriage will be irreparably harmed, and cherished freedom of conscience will be trampled if Arnold Schwarzenegger signs these bad bills into law,” said Randy Thomasson.

“We’re urging the Governor to be consistent and veto the school indoctrination bills like he did last year. He needs to do the right thing, not the wrong thing. Governor, please save children from sexual indoctrination, protect marriage from being counterfeited, and safeguard religious conscience against the intolerant onslaught of sexual activists,” Thomasson stated.

Anti-family bills on Governor Schwarzenegger’s desk:

* SB 777: Homosexual, bisexual, and transsexual indoctrination of schoolchildren via instruction, activities

* AB 394: Homosexual, bisexual, and transsexual indoctrination in schools via “harassment” training

* AB 43: Licensing of same-sex “marriages” throughout California

* AB 102: Awarding public image of marriage to homosexual partners by giving them married surnames

* AB 14: Infringing on the personal and religious consciences of business owners, churches, and non-profits

* SB 94: $3.2 million in taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions and birth control without parental permission

“Too many Americans find themselves without church leadership on social issues that threaten the very foundation of western civilization,” said conservative activist Michael Baker.

“More and more Americans are asking ‘Where are the pastors? Where is the moral leadership?’” Baker added.

“Parents get very angry when politicians dream of sexually indoctrinating their children in the classroom,” said Randy Thomasson.

“Kindergarteners and first-graders learning about transsexuality, bisexuality and homosexuality from their teachers? This is not what parents want or children need. Parents expect Governor Schwarzenegger to be consistent and veto these bad bills like he did before,” he said in a CCF media release.

Mike Baker said he believes most church pastors and conservative political leaders are cowards who fear the wrath of the mainstream news media and the venom of liberal-left activists.

“Pastors especially have allowed themselves to be bullied by people who are no better than heathens. Conservative politcians fear the bad press they would get from the likes of the New York Times and Washington Post,” Baker said.

“Private citizens are doing the work that pastors and church leaders should be doing in fighting the good fight on behalf of our most vulnerable citizens — American children,” Baker added.

“Some pastors and ministers mistakenly believe that political involvement is wrong. But what does the Bible say?” claims Deacon Charles Francis, a church elder in New Jersey.

“Where shall I not love God? Not in the government? Where shall I not love my neighbor? Not when the government harms my neighbor? How can houses of worship look the other way when our government sexually indoctrinates the minds of six million California schoolchildren? How can people of faith block their ears to the cries of children when California taxpayers are forced to pay for more than 100,000 abortions every year? How can compassionate clergy be silent when our government abuses religious freedom?” asks the Deacon.

Visit the savecalifornia.com home page for a streaming video from Massachusetts, demonstrating what implementation of SB 777 and AB 394 would look like in California public schools.

Reject Domestic Abuse Law Male-Bashing

The Encarta World English Dictionary defines “bashing” as follows:

1. physical assault: mugging or violence, especially when directed at a particular group of people

2. criticism: hostile comment directed at a particular individual or group - male-bashing

Domestic abuse law is purported to be a law that is concerned about domestic abuse against women, so is something that alleges to be about ending abuse against a select group of people actually perpetrating the vicious “bashing” of a whole group of other people?

http://www.harrysnews.com/tgDomesticViolenceDistortions.htm

In his 11/13/04 article, Domestic Violence Distortions Conceal Culture of Male Hatred, Mark Charalambous writes:

Ever since male- bashing became the national sport decades ago, there is no shortage of studies to quote in support of the campaign to demonize men. But the public would be shocked if they knew just how academic standards have been corrupted in the social sciences where students who eventually produce these studies are indoctrinated.

A standard introductory sociology textbook used in many colleges and universities, “Essentials of Sociology” by James Henslin, actually steers students away from doing research on women who abuse men. The first chapter includes a section on the correct methodology for doing research. It uses spouse abuse as an example:

“Let’s use spouse abuse as our topic. The next step is to narrow the topic. Spouse abuse is too broad; we need to focus on a specific area. For example, you may want to know why men are more likely to be the abusers.”

http://www.menweb.org/battered/wmcelroypenis.htm

Wendy McElroy, a few years earlier, gives us this perspective on male-bashing and domestic violence law in her 11/27/2001 article, Hang Male-Bashing Out to Dry:

Anti-male slander so frequently passes for domestic violence “awareness” that the YWCA of Middle Tennessee was recently able to run an ad in two Nashville newspapers that depicted the blurred photo of a boy near a front door. The caption read, “One day he’ll own his own house … drive his own car … beat his own wife.”

Sadly, male-bashing permeates every strata of society today, including America’s corrupt legal system, especially in the area of domestic abuse law.

The male-bashing, advocacy research (that passes for research) in Liberal Studies disciplines like Sociology, Women’s Studies, Political Science, etc., has been lobbied into law (Violence Against Women Act) by special interest, gender feminist groups, with little or no opposition. Our entire legal system has now signed off on enforcing this abuse of civil liberties, without pausing to reflect on the constitutional rights of men that have been trampled in the process. What should be scorned openly by educators, elected officials, law enforcement, and our judiciary is now just accepted as the status quo with nary a thought given to the inhuman cruelty and tyrannical injustice inherent in male-bashing, domestic abuse law.

What has changed in America in the years since domestic violence law has been passed? Allowing for trends in crime in the general population, and the fraudulent way that gender feminist ideologues keep records, not much appears to have changed in the percentage of women who are victims of domestic violence. However, the wholesale vilification of men as a group has become a national past time that seems to get a little worse every year. I for one am getting very sick of it.

One thing that must certainly be credited to all the “women’s industries” that have been funded by the Violence Against Women Act is the institutionalized male-bashing that greets every male in America 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Who would have ever expected such vile male-bashing to come form a Violence Against Women Act that was supposedly intent on ending forms of abuse like “bashing.”

Considering there were already laws on the books to address violence against men and women, the time has come for this worthless piece of taxpayer bilking legislation (VAWA) to be purged of all gender feminist ideological connections, or revoked. If we are to survive as a free nation with liberty and justice for all, we can no longer tolerate a piece of hate-based legislation that can’t offer a solution to violence against one gender without bashing and abusing the other.

Publisher to Pay Ted Kennedy 235,294 Bottles of Chivas for Memoirs

Posted by Doug Powers On November - 27 - 2007

Twelve, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing, has purchased the worldwide rights to Ted Kennedy's memoirs for $8 million. That equals 235,294 bottles of Chivas Regal Deluxe Blend, or 44,444 bottles of Chivas Regal Royal Salute. Obviously the senator is quite excited.

It's the highest amount paid to a politician for a memoir since Dan Rostenkowski got 22,727 postage stamps for his book, "Pardon me, Mr. President," which will be released just as soon as the content is transcribed from the wall of his old cell.

And the Voting Bloc du Jour for 2008 is?

Posted by Doug Powers On November - 27 - 2007

Not long ago I was wondering what the "new" heavily courted voting bloc would be. Years gone by have seen Soccer Moms, NASCAR Dads, Office Park Dads, Reagan Democrats, Yuppies, Angry White Males, etc.

My question has been answered:

Fifty-year-old Carmen Cortez cleans buildings until 1 a.m. as a janitor in San Francisco and lives with her adult son. Courtney Harrell is a 32-year-old lesbian working in the film industry who rents an apartment with three others. Kathleen Moschel is a 63-year-old Republican and former Hallmark card store owner who lives in the Contra Costa County retirement community of Rossmoor.

Despite those differences, some political operatives and pollsters are herding these women into the same sprawling demographic: unmarried women. The "unmarried" bloc is emerging as this year's trendy political moniker…

Hillary should easily win over this group, as she knows better than anybody else how to relate to people who aren't in a committed relationship.

The only remaining question is what pollsters will call this group, as "unmarried women" isn't nearly catchy enough. Given a demographers penchant for combining words, "Ringless Chicks" could easily become "Ricks." Look for it going into next year's election.

ACLU Brings War on Christmas to Fort Collins, Comes Up Short

Posted by John Bambenek On November - 26 - 2007

Much like the Christmas shopping season, the ACLU's War on Christmas begins earlier and earlier every year. This year in Fort Collins, Colorado, the city council decided to revise their policies to honor appropriately the holiday that almost ninety percent of America celebrates as Christmas. A task force was drawn up, given their task, and put to work.

Like most task forces set up by governing bodies, the result is only as good as the people you put in charge. In this case, the head of the ACLU in Fort Collins was tasked with running the committee. The result was obviously predictable.

The task force recommended no Christmas lights, no recognition of Christmas, no use of the colors red and green, no Christmas trees, and to otherwise squelch anything even remotely connected to Christmas. Instead, they suggested decorations of icicles and prominent use of the color brown. In short, they suggested returning Christmas to its millennia old pagan roots.

At the city council meeting to vote on the proposal, hundreds of people showed up to voice their concern (instead of the 10-15 people who usually show up) and the proposal was shot down 6-1. The lone dissenting voice protested saying that residents would feel left out and alienated by the city recognizing that the overwhelming majority of citizens are celebrating Christmas.

It's an interesting argument. Tolerance requires that people practice their faith in such a way that never leaves anyone out. Even if you took this argument at face value; that would effectively mean that no one could practice religion because the moment you identify with a group, you tacitly isolate those who are not part of that group. The idea that the First Amendment, designed to protect citizens from government, requires a destruction of all uniqueness is odd indeed.

However, it isn't a matter of simply suppressing religion from public life. These calls simply do not exist (even in the Fort Collins matter) when the religion in question is Judaism or Islam. The ACLU's goal, based on their track record, appears to be to prevent the public proclamation of Christianity in the name of the First Amendment. The bastardization of the Establishment Clause far beyond its intended meaning to require the government to enforce secular humanism on the people is to get the entire Bill of Rights backwards.

Horace Cooper, senior fellow with the American Civil Rights Union stated that it is inappropriate for "the government to pick and choose with faiths it will support and denigrate." The Establishment Clause, followed immediately by the Free Expression Clause, does not allow the suppression of a religion in the name of "diversity." In this case, the champions of diversity aren't really interested in what they preach; they simply want to redirect hate and intolerance to their desired targets. It's using the government to play the game of power politics. However, in this case — because of the efforts of the ACRU — the effort failed.

The ACLU generally uses intimidation to achieve victories that even the courts won't provide. By intimidating local officials with the threat of the ACLU, many simply cave and give the ACLU what they want. It is telling indeed that the Fort Collins ACLU head was in charge of this task force. In this case, it was the vigorous opposition of the local people combined with the ACRU that prevented the suppression of free speech and expression of an overwhelming majority of the community.

This intimidation has led to groups being formed to counteract the far-reaching agenda of the ACLU to build and impose a societal view outside the framework of the democratic process. Examples include the ACRU, which also has a courtwatch project to monitor Bush's judicial nominations, and other groups like the Thomas More Law Center and the American Center for Law and Justice.

One fact that should give everyone pause is that these debates about society now take place in courtrooms, argued by lawyers and decided by unelected judges. While there is a degree of balance with these groups, the wholesale removal of large social questions from the people has done much to not only undermine the notion of American self-government, but also call into question whether this country is really a republic anymore.

While this latest battle in the War on Christmas has subsided, the removal of the battle from the people to lawyers and courtrooms, and the fact that free expression of Christianity is under fire by the largest "civil rights" group in the country, should make us all think. This year, we can at least be thankful those who celebrate Christmas can still do so publicly as those who celebrate Ramadan or Hanukkah can do. Time will tell if the ACLU will succeed in telling us which religions and holidays we're allowed to recognize.

Oprah Stumping for Obama, Jammy Party Coming to a Town Near You

Great news, girlfriend! Oprah Winfrey is going to be travelling to Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina to campaign for Barack Obama.

Oprah agreed to endorse Obama after Barack agreed to a couple of terms. 1) Secretary of State, Dr. Robin Smith, and 2) The Department of Education will sponsor armed patrols of Oprah's school in South Africa.

A poster pitching an Oprah/Obama event in Iowa includes some unnecessary information, however:

Fun With Homonyms and Phonetics

A couple of quick notes while another Monday drags on…

First, a laughable but appropriate homonym. From the New York Post: De Palma Iraq flick bombs

The world is so violent that even the anti-war crowd is bombing. When will the madness end?

Next, the Sheboygan Press shows us a name that is sure to put you at the top of any sexual offense suspect list:

Angelina Lor initially claimed that Pheuk Kue, 37, a convicted sex offender, took her to Green Bay against her will in September and held her there until she was able to escape about two weeks later.

Kue's girlfriend, "Suki Ur Deek," was unavailable for comment.

Monday’s Column: “Good” Blacklisting vs. “Bad” Blacklisting

Posted by Doug Powers On November - 26 - 2007

It's been a while since I took a gratuitious swipe at liberal Hollywood, so today seemed like as good a time as any.

It all started when I read a story in the Washington Times about political leanings in Hollywood. It's not a problem to find a proudly outspoken liberal in Hollywood, but when the Times contacted a dozen actors rumored to be conservative, none would comment for the story. Why?

Give a read to "Blacklisted: GOP freaks" for the rest of the story. You can "Digg" it here.

Illegal Aliens Jeopardize US Biosecurity

Posted by Jim Kouri On November - 26 - 2007

by Jim Kouri, CPP

In the United States, Tuberculosis infection and disease occur most often among people born in areas of the world where TB is common, such as Asia, Africa, and Latin America. In most cases, these foreign-born persons become exposed to and infected in their country of birth and bring the contagious disease into the US.

Of all TB cases reported to the Centers for Disease Control in 1997 — the last year studied — 39% were in foreign-born persons. This is an increase from 1986, when 22% of cases were in foreign-born persons. Tuberculosis case rates were seven times greater in the foreign-born compared with the US-born population.

Also, foreign-born individuals now represent 46 percent of all tuberculosis cases reported in the United States compared to 27 percent of cases eight years ago. The CDC is currently processing new data on the illegal alien-TB connection.

TB cases come from Mexico, Philippines, and Vietnam, by and large. All people who apply for immigration and refugee status are screened for TB disease before coming to the United States. Immigrants with TB disease who are infectious at the time of screening are required to receive treatment before they are allowed entry into the United States.

However, the majority of those entering the US are illegal aliens who undergo no physical exams nor do they undergo treatment for their diseases.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the states with the highest numbers of multi-drug resistant TB cases during the last ten years were New York, California, Texas and Florida. These are the same states that are experiencing increased illegal alien populations.

One of the fears of many Americans is the fact that corporations involved in managing slaughterhouses and food-processing operations hire unscreened illegal aliens who may be contaminated with TB or worse — the deadly Bird Flu. For example, Tyson Foods, a Fortune 100 corporation specializing in poultry and meat products, openly employs thousands of illegal aliens.

NewswithViews.com contacted the Arkansas-based Tyson Foods and was told:

“Biosecurity is a major priority for our company… we require the use of protective clothing when people visit poultry farms, to prevent the spread of disease. Tyson Foods’ poultry health and occupational health experts have had an ongoing program… to keep our growers and our live production team members informed of appropriate and effective biosecurity and disease prevention measures.

However, in their response, Tyson Foods made no mention of their policy of hiring illegal aliens as plant workers. Nor do their corporate executives mention the enormous amount of political contributions made to both Democrats and Republicans, who in turn have taken no action against Tyson Foods in spite of their lawbreaking.

Meanwhile, Border Patrol Chief Carlos X. Carrillo has stated that the Border Patrol is not responsible for arresting/seizing illegal aliens, criminals, and/or drugs, according to officials at Local 2544, the Border Patrol Agents union.

According to a statement from Local 2544, “Carrillo is echoing some things that [Chief] David Aguilar has been saying at BP musters, only he isn’t as polished as Aguilar. When Carrillo made his statement, he didn’t spin it enough to leave himself an out. He obviously hasn’t mastered talking in circles yet.”

What troubles many health experts is the fact that some immigrants have TB or other contagious and deadly diseases, but are not infectious at the time of screening. Sometimes these immigrants become infectious after they enter the United States.

Also, many immigrants have TB infection, but not TB disease, at the time of screening. These immigrants may develop TB disease months or years after they come to the United States. Finally, many people enter the United States without being screened for TB disease, such as students, tourists, and illegal aliens.

“What appears to escape the notice of the Bush Administration is the fact that most of these infected illegal aliens come into the US via our porous border with Mexico,” said former NYPD Det. Sid Francis.

“While the US government allows imported tainted or contaminated products from China — including children’s toys that are covered in poisonous leaded-paint — it also allows illegal aliens to cross our borders without screening them for deadly diseases such as Tuberculosis,” he said.

TB is also a problem in correctional facilities where up to 27 percent of inmates are illegally in this country. A CDC study conducted in 1984 and 1985 showed that there were four times as many TB cases in people living in correctional facilities as there were in people of the same age who did not live in correctional facilities. There are several reasons why rates of TB disease are higher in correctional facilities.

First, many inmates already have TB infection and therefore are at higher risk of developing TB disease.

Second, an increasing number of inmates are infected with HIV, which means that they are more likely to develop TB disease if they become infected with M. tuberculosis. Finally, some correctional facilities are crowded, which promotes the spread of TB.

Other settings where people at risk for TB are grouped together are homeless shelters and drug treatment centers. People who live or work in these settings are at higher risk of being exposed to TB since these facilities house a disproportionate number of illegal aliens who emanate from countries where infectious diseases are commonplace.

Political strategist Mike Baker is concerned that the federal government will use an epidemic that’s created to bypass the US Constitution.

“Look what the federal government did during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans: they dispatched federal agents (from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) not to assist the suffering victims of the hurricane and floods, but to confiscate the guns owned by law-abiding citizens,” recalls Baker.

“According to medical emergency plans I’ve seen, Americans contaminated during a pandemic or other health emergency will be removed from their homes and quarantined. This will give the feds a perfect opportunity to confiscate citizens’ guns,” he said.

“Meanwhile, this same federal government will allow infected illegal aliens to cross our borders,” Baker added.

Members of Fathers4Justice, Los Angeles, http://F4JLA.org and the National Coalition of Free Men, Los Angeles, http://NCFMLA.org rallied again today in the Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Park. The two groups are working to build a Father’s activist network in Los Angeles County. They intend to bring attention to the dis-service that L.A. County family law affiliates so routinely dispense to L.A. County citizens, many of whom are fathers.

Today was a beautiful day to be outside in the park. The park was far less crowded than on previous outings, but the number of people coming to our rally was equal to, or greater than, other rallies. If traffic on the street was any indication, a number of people were out of town for the holiday, or spending their day at the shopping malls.

The day started out with a bang, when a woman stopped her car at the corner of the intersection, directly behind the blue truck, then briskly approached us exclaiming, “I have seven kids and an ex-husband who hasn’t paid child support in five years. What can you do about that?” We responded in a cordial manner and gave the woman info about who we are as well as our website address. We told her that the child support process and the family court system in Los Angeles County were often dysfunctional and that the process harmed a number of children and parents. The woman took our information then returned to her car.

Other folks came by and visited throughout the day, pretty much as has been the pattern at previous rallies. The cutest moment of the day for me came just after a young couple with two children visited our rally. They had just finished having their picture taken in front of our F4J sign with all the balloons, and were heading for their van. As they were leaving, I could hear one of their children crying so I grabbed a couple of balloons and ask the parent with the crying child if it was okay if the child had a balloon. She said, “Yes,” so each child got a balloon. As I walked back to our rally, it was evident that the child’s crying had stopped. There’s nothing like having a big purple balloon to make your whole day better, no matter whether you’re the person giving or getting, and no matter how old you are.

About midday, one our members donned his acting garb and cast himself in a sarcastic parody of “the family law judge.” Perhaps, I should have said parodies as the personality of “the family law judge” appeared to change with each new mask he donned.

Each person at our rally, no doubt, had his/her own unique interpretation of “the family law judge,” but below appears some descriptions that might reflect some people’s thoughts.

Judge Thug

Judge Thug is the finest gender feminist trained judge that Violence Against Women Act, STOP grant money can buy. With gender feminist trained goons like this in America’s judiciary, America’s future is assured - assured of destruction. Judge Thug welcomes false accusations of domestic violence, child abuse, etc. so he can proliferate frivolous restraining orders and gain “brownie points” from gender feminist court watchers, thereby sadistically pleasuring his/her self-indulgent power trip, while enhancing his/her career. Judge Thug loves to hear false accusations, scripted by gender feminist advocates, so he can proliferate frivolous restraining orders against innocent men. He/she errs only on the side of femi-fascist dogma. Many a chivalrous male judge, having the traits of Judge Thug gets a huge ego/adrenalin rush, just as soon as he sees the next falsely accused standing before him is not female.

Judge Buck-an-ear

Like the privateers that used to roam the high seas, Judge Buckanear has no real concern for the equitable earning of an honest living, and finds it far more lucrative to make his living, taking his cut of other people’s hard-earned earnings. Privateers were cutthroat thieves loose on the high seas, whose actions were not officially sanctioned by official governments, but as long as the governments in power got a big cut of the ill-gotten gains, they looked the other way - much like our family law courts treat child support today.

Judge Bury-men

Judge Burymen is one of the most insidious criminals loose in American society today and is likely the biggest mass murderer in the history of America. Judge Burymen has lost track of how many decent and innocent men he has driven to commit suicide, but the numbers are in the tens of thousands and more likely in the hundreds of thousands. Through his wielding of corrupt family court decisions Judge Burymen has put onerous financial burdens on men’s backs that he would not bear himself. When poor men have been unable to come up with the exorbitant amounts he’s decreed them to pay, or have gotten ill and couldn’t work, or some other mishap, Judge Burymen has kicked many of them towards their graves with his cruel, inhuman inconsideration of their bankrupt ability to pay. His desk drawers are full of the seized passports, contractor’s licenses, drivers’ licenses, etc. that good men needed to not only pay their child support obligations, but also to support themselves. After such seizers the only path open to many poor men has all too often been the short trip to the grave at their own hands - the last, desperate, statement of free will of many an unjustly enslaved male. Though purporting to work in the “best interest of the child,” Judge Burymen works in no family member’s best interest; not the buried father’s, not the fatherless child’s - not even the ex-wife’s - having only the man’s remains to scavenge over.

Judge Jackass

What can be said about Judge Jackass, except, “Family court laws, which are not in the best interest of children, or their parents, are an ass.” Though we often hear Judge Jackass braying his impractical and high-sounding platitudes from the bench, his words often have an ill effect on those expected to comply with his asinine judgments. Judge Jackass has a wide array of supposedly helpful family relations support personnel at his disposal, but alas, these “herd mates” ultimately exist, primarily to serve themselves - rather than the valid family needs of those who come before them. Judge Jackass was last seen braying his inane commands at some poor father who thought he would find equitable treatment and justice before Judge Jackasses’ stall. Instead, duped dad found only a cartload of donkey manure where his family and wealth had once been.

While not all of the judges in this list are above legislating from the bench, a future installment will address the judicial activist personality in specific detail, as well as other judicial dysfunctions. God knows there’s enough dysfunction in America’s judiciary to fill a personality disorder manual.

While all the parodied personalities of judges listed above may be found in family law courts, they are by no means found only in those courts. Sadly, they may be found on the bench in a wide array of courtrooms throughout America. All judge’s names used above are fictitious. Any resemblance to any judge’s name, living or dead, is purely coincidental. Any personality resemblance to any judge, living or dead, is likely not a coincidence.

A reckoning is in order in family courts all across America. F4JLA and NCFMLA are intent on seeing accountability brought back into a legal system influenced heavily by gender feminism and judicial chivalry. Presently, America’s family law system appears to exist to serve primarily the gender feminist agenda, and of course, itself.

Taxes, Fred Style

Posted by Doug Powers On November - 25 - 2007

I'm back home now after about 24 hours near Detroit for my wife's 20-year high school reunion, and one of the first things I read when I returned after a self-imposed day in news exile was that Fred Thompson would give us a choice as far as paying taxes goes.

When it comes to taxes and the IRS, usually these "choices" are simply deciding if you'd rather be shot, or hanged. Is Fred's plan any different?

WASHINGTON — Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson proposed an income tax plan Sunday that would allow Americans to choose a simplified system with only two rates: 10 percent and 25 percent.

Ooh, that's easy: I'll take the 10 percent one.

Unfortunately it's not that simple, but it's a starting point for some good old "flat tax/fair tax" tax debate. Here are more details.

Children of Fallen Police Officers Remembered on Christmas

Posted by Jim Kouri On November - 24 - 2007

by Jim Kouri

In 1990, National Association of Chiefs of Police treasurer, Debbi Chitwood, suggested that a program be put into place where age-appropriate new gifts be selected, wrapped and sent to survivor children at Christmas time and at the time of each child’s birthday in honor of their mother or father who was killed in the line of duty.

Volunteering time on her weekends, a special computer program was devised by the American Police Hall of Fame archival records director to keep track of the ages and birthdays of the children.

Within a decade, the program has grown from a concept to a reality where the kids look forward to their gifts from the American Police Hall of Fame and write notes of thanks back which are shared with members, donors and friends.

Last year alone 833 survivor children were sent Christmas or holiday gifts and in recent years NACOP has added the names of children of disabled and paralyzed officers with the assistance of the National Association of Chiefs of Police. This is a program that warms the hearts of the kids, concerned citizens, and staff alike who have already begun to send out gifts for the 2005 Christmas season.

Sadly, a law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty on an average of one every three days. The Chiefs of Police Association, an organization with over 14,000 members, ensures that families of police officers who pay the ultimate sacrifice during the 2005 holiday season are also included so that no child is forgotten. The Association and the American Police Hall of Fame, based in Titusville, Florida (Orlando area), also send a special holiday ornament to every family survivor’s home.

NACOP depends on local police chiefs, sheriffs or survivors themselves to keep the database current to ensure that the gifts are age and sex appropriate. Letters and e-mail are received from grateful children and parents who say the National Association of Chiefs of Police and the American Police Hall of Fame, which is sponsored by NACOP, are the only police organizations that remember the sons and daughters of fallen or injured police officers.

The National Association of Chiefs of Police, the American Federation of Police and the Police Hall of Fame also sponsor a college scholarship program for these kids who’ve suffered the loss of their parent.

And She Lift-eth Her Shirt and Sayeth Unto the Lord, “Woo-Hoooo!”

Joe Francis, the multi-millionaire guy who produced all those "Girls Gone Wild" videos, is now in jail on tax evasion charges. Because of his persecution, Francis says he now knows what it's like to be Jesus Christ. Really, he does. We all have our crass to bear.

Yeah, I can see the similarities — after all, Francis appears to have about 12 deciples in this picture (warning, that link isn't safe for work and it isn't safe if your kids are around — I'm only posting it to help Joe Francis demonstrate how much he has in common with the Savior) and he also managed to turn water into whine.

Francis must know the chapter and verse of the Bible passage(s) where is tells of Jesus's attempts to get drunken spring break chicks to lift up their shirts so he could film it and sell the footage for money, so I hope he lets the rest of us know where it is.

Does President Bush Seek UN Jurisdiction Over the USA?

Posted by Jim Kouri On November - 23 - 2007

In several speeches he gave across the country, former US Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton revealed that President George W. Bush and his administration are buckling under pressure from this nation’s Internationalists in the current controversy over Mexico and the International Court of Justice.

The Mexican government is attempting to save an illegal alien convicted of participating in the savage rape and murder two teenage girls from being executed in Texas for his crimes.
Death penalty opponents in both the US and Mexico are trying to place this nation under the control of a world court, according to critics of the Bush White House.

“[President George Bush's position is] a bad mistake, but one of many mistakes, I’m sad to say, the administration has made recently,” Bolton told syndicated radio talk show host Laura Ingraham.

Bolton believes that President Bush is helping Mexico and the International Court block the death sentence for a Mexican rapist-murderer. He called Bush’s actions “ridiculous.”

“Bolton is a true patriot. That’s why the liberals in the Democrat Party and the phony conservatives in the GOP were so eager to remove him from his seat at the UN. Bolton believes the UN is corrupt and he’s opposed to placing the United States under the jurisdiction of any international entity,” claims conservative political consultant Michael Baker.

“When it comes to US sovereignty, Americans would be better served listening to Ambassador Bolton rather than our ‘closet Internationalist’ President,” he added.

Baker points to phony conservatives such as Ohio’s Senator George Voinovich who shed tears during Senate confirmation hearings for Bolton to serve at the United Nations. “Voinovich feared Bolton’s anti-UN positions would hamper US involvement in the New World Order,” claims Baker.

In early October, the US Supreme Court heard arguments regarding the impending execution of Jose Medellin, who confessed to police in 1993 to raping and murdering two Houston, Texas, teenagers — Jennifer Ertman and Elizabeth Pena. The girls were sodomized and strangled with their own shoe laces, according to court records and police reports.

According to Houston Police detectives’ reports, Medellin boasted that he kept one victim’s Mickey Mouse watch as a souvenir of his heinous crime. Medellin and four other attackers were convicted of capital murder and are awaiting execution on death row.

The intervention in the case by the Bush administration comes after the International Court of Justice in the Hague found Medellin — who entered the United States illegally — was not informed of his right to contact the Mexican Consulate for legal assistance.

“Bush’s support of the World Court decision jeopardizes the cases of about 50 Mexican Nationals sitting on death row,” said former NYPD Det. Sidney Francis.

“Once again, President Bush is stabbing law enforcement officers — and the people they serve — in their backs,” said Francis.

Det. Francis points to the erosion of the enormous support of law enforcement officials and organizations enjoyed by President Bush in the 2004 election.

“President Bush was endorsed by the nation’s largest police organizations including the 350,000-member Fraternal Order of Police, the Police Benevolent Association and other law enforcement and security organizations and unions,” said Michael Baker.

“Now his popularity among cops has hit bottom because of his refusal to protect the US from illegal aliens who cross our borders at will,” he said.

Ambassador Bolton told talk host Laura Ingraham that the U.S. has no obligation to the world court in this case.

“It is ridiculous,” he said. “The Vienna Convention on consular relations does not create rights personal to the individual. It’s a state-to-state agreement.”

Lawmakers in Washington, DC, who signed the treaty, did not believe they were creating a way for criminals on death row to “get around our judicial system,” Bolton explained to Ingraham. “They haven’t had enough due process? They’ve had the full panoply of constitutional protection, and now they’re trying to create something else.”

The Bush Administration became involved in the Medellin case in 2003 when President Vicente Fox’s government sued the US over the consular issue in the UN’s world court.
The court ruled in Mexico’s favor in late 2004 and ordered the US to reconsider the Mexican inmates’ murder convictions and death sentences. In February 2005, Bush announced that while he disagreed with the decision, the US would comply. He ordered courts in Texas and elsewhere to review the cases.

The Supreme Court, which had agreed to hear Medellin’s case, dismissed it in order to allow the case to play out in Texas. Then in November 2006, the all-Republican Texas Court of Criminal Appeals balked at the president’s order, saying Bush had overstepped his authority.

The Texas court ruled that the judicial branch — not the White House — should decide how to resolve the Mexican cases. It also said Medellin wasn’t entitled to a new hearing because he failed to complain at his original trial about any violation of his consular rights and had therefore waived them.

Then Medellin’s defense attorney appealed again to the US Supreme Court, which announced last May it would hear the case. His lawyer, Donald Donovan of New York, argued that Bush was correct when he took action to comply with the world court’s decision.

Recently, for his achievements in both international arbitration and international human rights, Donovan was awarded the Premio Nacional de Jurisprudencia by the Mexican Bar Association, the first non-Mexican so honored.

What the U.S. government wants in the Medellin murder case is “bizarrely grotesque,” according to a statement by the chief counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund.

The warning from ADF Chief Counsel Benjamin Bull notes that the case, being pursued by President Bush through the Department of Justice, could result in US laws being subjugated to UN resolutions and rules to the point that local police officers will have to spend more time studying international law than catching criminals.

Ear Steaming Liberal Outrage of the Day: Justice Karl Rove?

Posted by Doug Powers On November - 23 - 2007

Paul Slansky of The New Yorker, throws out a nighmare scenario that's bound to make some of the paranoid and panicked liberals at the Huffington Post choke on their Goreburger: Bush could name Rove to the Supreme Court.

One commenter tries to ease everybody's fears by noting that Rove isn't a lawyer. Let me now throw some of that stress and anxiety back on the pile: You don't have to be a lawyer to sit on the Supreme Court.

As for Slansky, I trust him, because his biography reeks of unbiased objectivity: "Paul Slansky is a regular contributor to The New Yorker, where his quizzes skewering the beyond contemptible Bush 'presidency' have been appearing since the 2000 election was stolen."

The plagiarization of portions of Dan Rather's biography aside, I'd give everything I have to see Karl Rove end up on the Supreme Court. I could make all the money back, and then some, in a week — by writing obituaries for liberals who perished from outrage-induced spontaneous cranium combustion.

Random Thanksgiving Stuffing

Just a few notes today for anybody who stops in before passing out from all the turkey, pie and beer…

***The Conservative UAW Guy has a point I hadn't thought of, but it's a question certainly worth asking: Why is Bush pardoning a turkey when border agents remain imprisoned for the crime of doing their job?

***Jack Cashill, my pal over at WorldNetDaily, is giving thanks for the "best GOP lineup ever." Time will tell.

***MoveOn.org has an ad calling for U.S. troops to be brought home — while showing a picture of British troops. If Bush does exactly what MoveOn asks, MoveOn's next ad will be urging Congress to get British troops out of Brooklyn and back to England.

***In a country that has the unique problem of a skyrocketing obesity rate among its lower income citizens, John Edwards has come out with a plan to feed the hungry. One of these ideas is to "lure supermarkets into neighborhoods that don't have them." This makes it easier to get to he store, slip, fall, call John Edwards and sue their ass back to the stone age.

***My Detroit Lions must beat the Green Bay Packers today to remain in playoff contention. Will they? I've been a fan so long that I short-sell confidence to earn a nice living, but they do have a shot, provided Brett Favre wakes up blind this morning.

***Finally, on this the 44th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination, we have a reminder that Bush isn't the only president to be hated to the point of being called "Hitler," "treasonist," etc.

The following handbill was being passed around in Dallas shortly before Kennedy arrived. Reason #5 transcends generations:

Swedish Meatballs Just Before Thanksgiving

From the "Swedish researchers can be as shameless as the American mainstream media" file comes this:

Half of Swedes think their politicians have low moral standards, a new survey indicates. Journalists and company executives also have a bad reputation.

In the survey, conducted by researchers at Gothenburg University, 48 percent of those asked said that politicians' morals were poor or very poor. Only 14 percent responded that morality among the country's elected representatives was of a high or very high level.

Later on in the same story:

While journalists and businesspeople came out badly, researchers were viewed as having high moral standards.

Imagine the odds.

64th gun case since Miller in 1939

Recognition of individual right to arms could be reversed

Supreme Court Gun Cases

Nov. 20, 2007, Washington, D.C. — The Supreme Court today decided to hear the District of Columbia v. Heller civil-rights case, characterized by many as its first gun case since the Miller case in 1939, a common error.

The High Court has been ruling on guns and gun rights since 1820, with 31 cases addressing the subject before Miller and 63 cases afterwards until this one. The widely quoted Miller case concerned two bootleggers and a sawed-off shotgun. Miller was murdered before his case could be retried as directed by the Supreme Court, leaving that short, controversial decision to be interpreted in many ways.

In the Court’s 92nd gun case, U.S. v. Bean (2002), it decided that a man deprived of his right to keep and bear arms, due to a questionable felony arrest in Mexico, could not sue in federal court to regain those rights, since the federal bureau in charge of reviewing such gun-rights cases had failed to act.

The 93rd gun case, Brosseau v. Haugen (2004), asked whether a police officer shooting an escaping felon in the back was an excessive use of force. The Court avoided this question, resolving only a side issue of the officer’s immunity from a lawsuit after the shooting. The case involved a rather wild fracas and an awkward shot at a driver through the rear driver’s side window.

In its 94th such case, Small v. U.S. (2005), the Justices decided that a felony conviction in a Japanese court, which used procedures far below American standards, was not sufficient to deprive the defendant of his right to buy and possess a firearm.

The 95th case, Castle Rock v. Gonzalez (2005), confirmed a long-standing rule that, even though an armed violent spousal abuser under a restraining order had repeatedly threatened his estranged wife, the woman had no grounds to expect police protection. Some claim this is not a gun case per se, even though the husband shot her three children to death, before he was shot to death by police. Others have suggested that, since police have no duty to protect you, the right to self preservation, and the tools to make it effective, must be inherent under due process.

Ms. Gonzalez had assistance from civil rights groups and a firm with 1,000 lawyers but still lost the case. Although counterintuitive, police only have an obligation to society in general, not to specific people. Justice Scalia, in the 7-2 decision said there is no federal constitutional right to police protection, which leads some observers to infer a right to self protection. The Court said states were free to craft laws to fill the gap, but states have not. It is not the most clear-cut of the Court’s many related cases, but it does firmly establish police “no duty to protect.”

The new case now granted review, District of Columbia v. Heller, is somewhat different, since the parties are arguing specifically over the Second Amendment itself, and not the firearms they choose to bear or how they put them to use. The District of Columbia has, since 1976, denied its citizens any ri
